Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It became the number streamed song at the moment within just six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music as a whole. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish generally, and four in the year 2016. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Soon, other artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars including Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma with Medellin 2019 In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton performers were lamenting their genre's shift towards the mainstream, but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to ensure that reggaeton was evolving.
